Chris started his helicopter training a few months ago and has not looked back. He is in the final phase of private pilot training having completed almost all of his solo requirements. His next step is to prepare for his Private Pilot Helicopter Checkride and then continue on to the Helicopter Instrument Rating. Chris attended the Private Pilot ground school with Dotsie Millbrandt this summer and is now enrolled in the Part 141 helicopter ground school taught by Curt Peredina. Chris is taking the opportunity to begin his instrument rating ground training along with our other Part 141 students.

The instrument ground school will fulfill the Part 141 requirements for the instrument rating allowing Chris to save almost 50 hours of helicopter flight time while attaining his instrument rating. The Part 141 helicopter instrument course is 35 hours of ground training and 35 hours of flight training and does not require the 50 hours of PIC cross country time to meet the requirements for the helicopter instrument rating check ride. He will do all of his instrument training in our Robinson R-22 helicopter, saving thousands of dollars in the process.

After the instrument rating, Chris will be in a good position to pursue his commercial certificate in our Robinson R-22 and R-44 helicopters. The goal will be to have Chris complete the R-44 transition and build experience ferrying R-44 and R-22 helicopters as he attains his advanced ratings.

After that, he will attain his flight instructor rating and become an instructor here at North Andover Flight Academy! Chris is looking forward to his future as a helicopter pilot.

UPDATE 11/27/10 - Chris has just received his private pilot helicopter license and will be pursuing our Part 141 instrument rating!
