Boston Helicopter Flight School Information
So the search is over and you have decided to start your helicopter flight training. You have carefully considered the pros and cons and you have chosen our school. Your first day will start with meeting the staff and instructors, filling out some paperwork, going over your course material, and then to the helicopter for your first lesson.
You will be assigned a mentor instructor who will oversee your entire training. At our school, we believe it is beneficial for students to train in some capacity with more than one instructor. It is natural for students to feel
comfortable with their primary instructor, but you will get to know most instructors here at some point in your training, and the occasional flight with other instructors is a good preparation for your checkride. Even though all our instructors train to the same standard, there are critical parts of training which you will fly with your primary instructor only, such as before your solo and checkride.
After meeting the staff, your first lesson and school orientation will continue as follows:
- Receive your pilot kit and other training materials (we have a complete, standardized kit for all students)
- Review the flight syllabus and what to expect during training
- Review the ground syllabus
- Fill out your student folder and other training documents
- Fill out your enrollment certificate
- Review the Pilot Operating Procedures Handbook for our school
- Tour the ramp area and go over ramp and helicopter parking procedures
- Head out the the helicopter with your instructor and start your first lesson
One feature of our helicopter flight school is the heated hangar in which our helicopter are stored. Because of the Boston Massachusetts climate, we protect our helicopters from the harsh winter weather. This means that you do not preflight out on the ramp in the cold. We prefer to preflight in the heated hangar on most cold days! This is good for our students and our aircraft.
