Cost Breakdown of Helicopter Licenses/Ratings

We receive lots of phone calls asking about the cost of a helicopter license. Lots of schools will quote you the total cost based on FAA minimums, which rarely apply. We wanted to setup a cost breakdown based on "real world" numbers - not the FAA minimums. If you haven't already taken a look at our articles on how to save money during your helicopter training or the real costs of helicopter training, it's a good place to start. There's a lot of information out on the internet, and our article on how to choose a helicopter flight school has lots of good information as well. There's also a list of good helicopter flight training articles on our Boston helicopter flight training information page.

We have compiled a list of what most people can expect when obtaining their helicopter ratings and certificates. This list uses real numbers and our actual prices. If you are looking into a career as a helicopter pilot, you will notice that our courses include Robinson R-22 and Robinson R-44 experience. It's important that you complete your CFI training and have the ability to fly and teach in the R-44 and R-22 helicopters.

There are lots of little charges (such as pre/post flight briefing), you will not see in these cost breakdowns, because we save you money on your helicopter training.

For a rates breakdown, please see our rates page.
